Tour to E.H. Price, Burnaby, BC

Hi folks,

On Oct 28, 2013 we had the tour to E.H. Price. I would like to thank Justin Chu from E.H. Price, Stephen Kooiman from Prism Engineering, Joseph Cheung from BCIT and everyone who came out to the E.H. Price and made this event a success. The presentation was covering the ventilation, HVAC design related to airflow in the room and several HVAC products that E.H.Price are recognized for.

We had collaborated with BCIT students and it was a success. We are planning to do a similar collaborative event in the new year to the Hillcrest Centre located in Vancouver. I will keep everyone posted on the exact time and location as we get all set up.

If you have any question, please don't hesitate to email us. Our email is ubcashrae@gmail.com.

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year from UBC-ASHRAE team.

Regards,

Manny Daid

Guest Speaker Presentation on HVAC Design & Job Market

We had a presentation by Stephen Kooiman, P.Eng. from Prism Engineering on Industry standard HVAC design and respective job markets and opportunities available. Branislav (Baki), Mechanical Designer from Integral Engineering gave valuable knowledge on the design and the job market for HVAC in lower mainland and across Canada. Students from both undergrad and grad showed the great interest in it and we had the great questionnaire session.

We have two new executives in our team Mallory Savich, Secretary and Patrick Wong, Treasurer definitely a great support to our team. We are planning to do a tour in end of October or beginning of November. Stay tune for the email that would be sent out this month. We have a four executives in our team and we would do our best to have a guest event from experienced industry professionals and tours to HVAC facility. If you have an interest in  HVAC, please join ASHRAE membership and enjoy the ASHRAE industry networking events and ASHRAE magazine(free)  every month, all at a very low student price. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email your queries.

Cheers,

UBC ASHRAE BBQ Event/Collaboration with ASME

On Sept 11, 2013, UBC ASHRAE had the BBQ event to introduce ASHRAE to all the engineering students. Branislav (Student Chair, ASHRAE) and Stefan (Vice Student Chair, ASHRAE) were at the event representing HVAC/R community. The event was a success with high attendance of more than 70 people.

On March 27th, 2013, UBC ASHRAE worked with UBC ASME to coordinate the first meeting hosted collaboratively by two engineering student branches in last two years (as per my knowledge) at UBC. The meeting was a success. We hope to have more collaborative presentations with UBC ASME in the future, since our member groups have significant overlap and similar goals.

End of last year (2012), we had the tour to E. H. Price. This year we will do a tour to the same or similar facility. We have Samarth Joshi , serving UBC-ASHRAE as Vice President. I look forward to in continuing the growth and cultivation of HVAC/R and green buildings knowledge here at UBC.

Cheers,

BC ASHRAE Past Presidents Meeting

Hi Everyone,

Last weeks BC ASHRAE lunch meeting was a great chance to meet past and current leadership within ASHRAE. Current ASHRAE Society President Tom Watson was the guest speaker. He gave an enlightening presentation on the direction of ASHRAE as a whole, and some suggestions on how we can improve from within. As the theme of the meeting would suggest, Toms major points revolved around cultivating leadership within ASHRAE and upholding our main objectives of designing and building the best buildings possible.

Thanks to everyone that attended, and I look forward to seeing you at future ASHRAE events when I am in the industry.

Cheers,
Jayson

Hi Everyone,

This month's UBC ASHRAE Student Branch meeting was a great success, with a turnout of seven committed UBC ASHRAE members. Branislav (Baki) Cvijetinovic gave a very thorough presentation on HVAC mechanical design, with an emphasis on ducting and piping design. On behalf of the student branch, I would like to thank Baki for taking the time to enrich the UBC learning experience with his industry knowledge.

Our next meeting will be in March before the final exam period. Also, if you are interested in going to the February BC ASHRAE meeting please follow the link below to the meeting notice and RSVP.

UBC ASHRAE in the New Year

Hi Everybody,

I hope the winter break was as enjoyable for you as it was for me. Now that we're back to class, it's time for UBC ASHRAE to continue adding value to your educational experience through HVAC&R mentorship. We plan to have a meeting featuring a guest speaker on HVAC mechanical design later this month (date TBD). We also look forward to the industry related input from new members that have returned from their first coop terms.

I will contact all student branch members soon with details and changes for the new term. As always, if you have any questions related to HVAC&R feel free to send me an email and I'll get back as soon as possible.

Cheers,
Jayson
